[TEPHIConnect] Training Opportunity! FETP Effective Mentorship Curriculum

TEPHINET, in close collaboration with Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, CDC, and Becoming Better Ancestors, is providing a curriculum for FETP mentors.

Target audience: For Individuals: Advanced and Intermediate FETP Mentors (must be a current mentor)

Language: English

Dates: Mid-April

Time commitment: The specialization will take approximately 60 hours over 12 weeks


Curriculum at-a-glance:

  • Course 1: Effective Mentorship (Instructor-led)

  • Course 2: Health Detective (Self-paced)

  • Course 3: Health Communicator (Self-paced)

  • Course 4: Health Investigator (Self-paced)


In-depth curriculum:

Course 1 is an instructor-led program that helps mentors understand and acquire the skills necessary to promote significant learning for trainees, utilizing various tools for effective mentoring. Competencies of EFFECTIVE MENTORSHIP: 

  • Empowers trainees to grow and thrive through feedback, instruction, and encouragement

  • Uses different tools for virtual training to meet tutoring objectives

  • Builds constructive working relationships built on acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect

  • Encourages others to support trainees’ ideas, projects, or programs goals.

  • Promotes teamwork and dedication to meet goals and deliverables

Courses 2-4 are self-paced skills refreshers for core FETP activities; the core activities include:

  • HEALTH DETECTIVE Outbreak Investigation Report Surveillance Analysis Report Evaluation of a Surveillance Report System

  • HEALTH INVESTIGATOR Investigation Outline Investigation Protocol Scientific Manuscript

  • HEALTH COMMUNICATOR Scientific Abstract Oral Presentation Scientific Poster Bulletin Article
