SAFETYNET Joined Cambodia FETP Advisory Board Meeting on December 16, 2024 at Angkor Paradise Hotel, Siem Reap

On December 16, 2024, SAFETYNET participated in the Cambodia Field Epidemiology Training Program Advisory Board Meeting held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The meeting, organized by the Department of Communicable Disease Control (CDC) of the Ministry of Health, was presided over by Her Excellency Dr. Yok Sambath, Secretary of State, under the high patronage of His Excellency Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health.

 

The objectives of the meeting were to review and update the composition of the advisory board, revisit the activities outlined in the Cambodia Field Epidemiology Training Program Strategic Plan: 2023–2030, and reassess the roles and responsibilities of the current advisory board members.

 

Key participants included His Excellency Dr. Ly Sovann, Director of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, along with representatives from various departments such as Finance, Personnel, the National Institute of Public Health, and development partners, including WHO, US CDC, and SAFETYNET. SAFETYNET reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Field Epidemiology Training Program through capacity-building initiatives, fostering partnerships, and promoting multisectoral collaboration in addressing emerging public health challenges.

During the discussions, Dr. Fadzilah Kamaludin, Deputy Director of SAFETYNET, emphasized the SAFETYNET’s dedication to building capacity in disease surveillance and response in Cambodia. She also highlighted the exemplary collaboration between the Ministry of Health, US CDC, SAFETYNET, and WHO, which serves as a model for other countries in the region to enhance their public health systems.

 

This meeting marked another step forward in strengthening the capacity and sustainability of field epidemiology efforts in Cambodia, aligning with national and regional public health priorities.
