SAFETYNET Joined ASEAN +3 FETN Steering Committee Meeting In Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, 10-11 December 2024



SAFETYNET proudly participated in the 14th ASEAN Plus Three Field Epidemiology Training Network (ASEAN+3 FETN) Steering Committee Meeting held from 10–12 December 2024 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The event, themed “Building Resilient Rapid Response Teams through Field Epidemiology Training Program,” brought together field epidemiologists, public health professionals from ASEAN Member States, and development partners to strengthen regional collaboration in public health preparedness and response.


The meeting commenced with an open session on 10 December 2024, featuring a warm welcome by Dr. Ly Sovann, Chair and Host Country Representative from Cambodia. Delegates were introduced to the policy on ASEAN’s smoke-free events, emphasizing the region’s commitment to promoting health. Throughout the day, SAFETYNET actively participated in discussions, including updates on the ASEAN+3 FETN Work Plan 2021–2025. The highlight was the roundtable discussion where SAFETYNET presented its efforts in advancing field epidemiology training, mentorship programs, and national contributions to building resilient rapid response teams.


On 11 December 2024, SAFETYNET delivered a presentation during the partner session, showcasing its contributions to capacity development for One Health and integrated surveillance systems, support for FETP mentorship initiatives, and collaboration on innovative projects to enhance outbreak response capabilities. This session provided an opportunity to engage with other key partners, including WHO, U.S. CDC, and the ASEAN Veterinary Epidemiology Group, fostering a multi-sectoral approach to public health challenges.


The meeting concluded on 12 December 2024 with a closed session focusing on post-2025 ASEAN+3 FETN priorities and strategies for enhancing cooperation with development partners. SAFETYNET observed discussions on implementing approved projects and ensuring sustainability in field epidemiology initiatives.


The event underscored the importance of fostering resilient rapid response teams to mitigate public health emergencies. SAFETYNET reaffirmed its commitment to supporting FETP initiatives, strengthening regional collaboration, and advancing digital surveillance systems. The organization also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health, Cambodia, and the ASEAN Secretariat for hosting a successful event. The welcome dinner and traditional performance on 10 December provided a perfect platform for networking and cultural exchange.
